Oxidative stress index as a novel biochemical marker in tuberculosis; with therapeutic benefit of antioxidant supplementation

چکیده
Background Severe oxidative stress has been reported in tuberculosis [TB] patients. There are no previous reports regarding oxidative stress index and supplementation of antioxidants in TB. The objective of this study was to assess the antioxidant status, lipid peroxidation and oxidative stress index in TB patients. Also to assess the antioxidant supplementation with antituberculosis therapy in TB outcome.

Effect of Flaxseed Supplementation and Concurrent Physical Activity on Total Antioxidant Capacity of the Plasma and the Lipid Peroxidation Index of Overweight Women
Background: Obesity is associated with increased oxidative stress. In addition, exercise can increase oxidative stress effects. However, the use of dietary supplements may moderate these indices. Objective: The present study is conducted to assess the effect of flaxseed supplementation on the total antioxidant capacity and lipid peroxidation after four weeks concurrent training in overweight w...
متن کاملProtective Effects of Dietary Spirulina platensis against Cadmium-Induced Oxidative Stress in Gills of Rainbow Trout
Background: Contamination of feeds with cadmium leads to oxidative stress in vital tissues such as gills and affects the fish survival. Therefore, an increase in the capacity of the antioxidant defense system and detoxification system of fish may reduce adverse effects of pollutants. This study investigated the protective effects of microalga Spirulina platensis against oxidative stress in gill...
متن کاملQuercetin reduces markers of oxidative stress and inflammation in sarcoidosis.
BACKGROUND & AIMS Oxidative stress and low antioxidant levels are implicated in the aetiology of sarcoidosis, an inflammatory disease. Quercetin is a potent dietary antioxidant that also displays anti-inflammatory activities. Consequently, the aim is to examine the effect of quercetin supplementation on markers of oxidative stress and inflammation in sarcoidosis. METHODS A double-blind interv...
متن کاملAntioxidant Enzymes and Oxidative Stress in the Erythrocytes of Iron Deficiency Anemic Patients Supplemented with Vitamins
Background: Iron deficiency anemia is one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Evidences from epidemiological and clinical studies suggest a possible correlation between antioxidant levels and the anemic disease risk. The present work is to investigate antioxidant levels and lipid peroxidation in anemic patients. Methods: A number of 30 patients (15 males and 15 females) we...
متن کاملAntioxidants: Friend or foe for tuberculosis patients
Respiratory burst induced bacteria killing by oxidants are important mechanism of host defence. However, it is impaired in tuberculosis due to inhibition of respiratory burst by Mycobacterial factors. Antioxidants are compounds that cause chelation of reactive oxygen species. So, antioxidants are expected to play a negative role in the management of active tuberculosis. But, oxidative stress is...
